Company: African Power EPC Solutions
Country: South Africa
Challenge: The company undertook a 500kV high-voltage transmission line project in the Drakensberg Mountains (altitude ≥3,500m). Traditional insulated tools suffered from reduced insulation performance due to thin air, and the low temperature (-25℃ in winter) caused handle brittleness. They needed tools that could adapt to high-altitude and ultra-low-temperature environments.
Solution: We customized high-altitude dedicated insulated operating tools: ① Optimized FRP material with 20% higher dielectric strength to compensate for thin air; ② Added low-temperature toughening agents to the handle rubber to resist brittleness at -40℃; ③ Customized 6-section telescopic rods (length 4-8m) to match the mountainous operation radius. All products complied with ANSI/ASTM F711 standards.
Result: The customized tools ensured zero insulation failures during live-line work. The project construction period was shortened by 30%, and no safety accidents occurred. African Power EPC has since designated our tools as the preferred choice for high-altitude projects.
